PHASE 3- PROTOTYPE & LAYOUT
so i have a few more ideas. I think i agree with you that my current idea is
very abstract. so i have started going down this road now.... kind of combining the mashrabiyya look into this pen pal idea.... I was thinking at first the maashrabiyya (or the pattern) will cover up most of the underlying information, perhaps it will be transparency overlay... and the further into the book you go the more content you see and the less complex the mashrabiyya gets.I am trying to keep going back to my thesis.Because there re so many layers to my project. ( who the writers are writing to, the countries they are from, the content which they chose to write about)I have been really working at trying to find something cohesive and let the letters make the content.

My narrative2
My narrative I believe will be the story of a western woman taking the journey of delivering these letters. These letters were found in the dead letter office, and she feels compelled to deliver them by hand. Something that shows her emotional journey though the book and through the letters might help the reader feel apart of these stories by living vicariously through the Western character. The story will be called "The lost letters" or in arabic, the translations would be the "the lost messages". I though this was appropriate for the story as these are letters that never reached the orignal recipient, yet take you though a snippet of their life.
MY NARRATIVE?!?
Now the question is how to incorporatemy own narrative. What is my narrative? My story doesnt really work in this story so how do i implement a story that would work for all of these diverse letters?
create a story about metamorphosis.... breaking down the layers. morphing into understanding.
The way we see the world as the second narrative and how it changes over time...
Showing layers of emotion through layering images?

PIN ON THE WALL CRIT
This Crit was very helpful in this phase. Phase 3 is all about prototyping your design and how your concept is played out through different media. I am thinking about doing a book or a compilation of letters, I was having trouble articulating how i was going to have a voice among all of these other women's letters. I found out through this crit that I should do a sort of double narrative and have the reader feel as if they are going on a journey with these women though their narrative.
