DECISION TIME!

My presentation is now past, and from my three concepts ( Pen pal, Quilting, Mashrabiyya) I had to chose one topic.  the development of the pen pal idea and the mashrabiyya were more understood by my demographic, but it seemed that the pen pal idea had more room to grow and the most possibilities, so I have decided to follow the pen pal idea.

Final moodboards for phase 2- "The Three Concepts" phase

 This is moodboard #1- to give a sense of what a pen pal is. it represents connection,  handwritten truth about an individual that gives another individual insight into the life of someone else and another culture.

Moodboard #2- Penpals - This is what I would like my project to feel like.  Hand written, hand bound, personal and telling of another culture. 

 Moodboard #3- Quilting- all women can relate to this concept.  Quilting is the hand craft of storytelling and the lineage of women in particular cultures. 

 Moodboard #4- Mashrabiyya- this concept is inspired by mashrabiyya, shttter like things in the middle east that you can see out of but not into.  Being able to see through the mashrabiyya, into someone elses life.

NEWER CONCEPTS

maybe write in the format of a diary where you feel like you are getting the details from a secret source...

the middle east for dummies... maybe doing an instruction guide about the middle east and how to interact with the culture/ find the culture in your own area. 

Website... going from the general to the specific about a country and a people in the general middle east... concept is brainstorming... constantly getting new sources and new exposure...

this of quilting... maybe using this idea to pass on ideas... and concept is the generational passing of ideas through a traditional practice... 

Working with diminishing borders between women.  Perhaps, creating a network where women around the world can get to know other cultures and feel comfortable...
